Earthquake in Toronto, Ottawa, Madawaska Valley

Wednesday, June 23, 2010 2:02 PM EST: An earthquake hit just a few minutes ago, and passed within a minute or so. We are waiting for more details, but the news networks haven’t published anything yet, and the cell network in Toronto is overloaded at the moment. Thankfully nobody in my area was hurt and nothing was damaged, and hopefully it’s the same elsewhere.

We hope that this doesn’t herald the coming of a larger quake.

UPDATE: the U.S. Geological Survey has the info on today’s earthquake in Canada, and according to them it was a 5.0 on the Richter scale. The recorded time was 01:41:42 PM (at the epicenter, which uses EST) Our news outlets are reporting a 5.5 for some reason, except the CBC, who waited to post until they confirmed it.

Great idea to take advantage of the situation: “To celebrate our earthquake survival, use QUAKE10 for 10% off your meal.” Just-Eat Canada

Mentioned here as well but it seems their server isn’t able to keep up with the load, since they were one of the first to post about it outside of Twitter.
